PM ‘Surprised’ at Russia’s Reaction to Kodori Attack Report
Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli has expressed his surprise at Russia’s hard-line response to a report by the UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) on the March 11 attack on upper Kodori Gorge.
“I was quite surprised at hearing this kind of statement from the Russian side,” the prime minister said, particularly when the report, according to the prime minister, “does not claim” that Russian helicopters were involved in the attack.
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on July 17, in which it pointed the finger at Tbilisi, saying that the March 11 attack on upper Kodori Gorge “favored, first and foremost, the Georgian side.”
