Officials Arrested in Kutaisi

Omar Kikvidze, the deputy mayor of Kutaisi, and sixteen other officials from the local municipality, were arrested on July 2, the Interior Ministry said.

All have been charged with, what Soso Topuridze, deputy chief of the Department for Constitutional Security at the Interior Ministry, termed “embezzlement.” GEL 600,000 in state funds is believed to be involved.

He said the crime involved government tenders being offered to certain companies for a price.

Six business people from Kutaisi have also been arrested for alleged involvement.
