Some MPs from Ruling Party to Ally with Okruashvili ? MP Says
Some lawmakers from the ruling National Movement Party plan to quit the party and form a new one in support of ex-Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili, Nazi Aronia, a lawmaker from the ruling party, said.
?It is a fact that Okruashvili enjoys the highest public support, after the National Movement party,? she told Rustavi 2 TV on June 26.
Disappointed by being shuffled from the defense to the economy ministry last November, Okruashvili quit the cabinet.
Since then there has been repeated speculation that he plans a political comeback, in which he would challenge the monopoly of the ruling party, but leave President Saakashvili himself unopposed.
