New Abkhaz TV on Air

An independent Abkhaz television station, Abaza TV, will go on the air on June 26, Apsnipress news agency reported.

The new TV station is owned by the Abkhaz businessman and former lawmaker, Beslan Butba.

?We will enjoy an independent editorial policy? and we will not ally ourselves either with the opposition or the authorities,? Ruslan Khashig, Director-General of Abaza TV, said on June 25.

The station will broadcast news twice a day in Russian. Khashig said that a news roundup in Abkhaz would be broadcast once a week.

The new TV station, which will compete with the local state TV channel, will cover Sokhumi and Gulripshi districts of the breakaway region.
