State Minister, Foreign Diplomats Discuss Conflicts
Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze met with the ambassadors of France, Germany, Great Britain, Russia and the U.S. – the UN Secretary General?s Group of Friends – on June 20 to discuss Abkhazia.
The minister reiterated Tbilisi’s readiness to resume talks with Sokhumi, according to his office.
Sokhumi, however, has long maintained the position that it would resume talks only after Tbilisi had withdrawn its forces and the Abkhaz government-in-exile from upper Kodori Gorge.
This position was reiterated by the Abkhaz side on June 8 when the five ambassadors visited Sokhumi.
At the meeting on June 20, Antadze also briefed the ambassadors on recent developments in the South Ossetian conflict zone.
