Sanakoev Denies Meeting with Ex-Defense Minister

Dimitri Sanakoev, head of the Tbilisi-backed South Ossetian provisional administration, denied reports on May 22 that he had met with Georgia?s former defense minister, Irakli Okruashvili.

Sanakoev?s press office refuted an InterPressNews agency report, which quoted unnamed sources as saying that a meeting had taken place.

?No meeting of this kind has taken place. It is not even planned and Irakli Okruashvili himself has never proposed such a meeting,? Sanakoev?s press service said, adding that he does not even know Okruashvili personally.

The press service said that Sanakoev had ?a close friend? by the name of Giorgi Okruashvili, who is a Tbilisi-based businessman. It suggested that a misunderstanding had taken place as a result of name confusion.

Recently, InterPressNews also reported that the former defense minister was about to launch a new political party.
