Tbilisi Says Russian Planes Violated Georgian Airspace

Two airplanes entered into the Georgian airspace from the Russian Federation on May 10 at about 12:30 pm local time, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

The airplanes violated airspace over Stepantsminda district (former Kazbegi). The intrusion lasted four minutes with the planes penetrating four kilometers into Georgia, according to the Foreign Ministry.

A protest note has already been sent to Moscow, ?demanding relevant explanations.?

The Russian side has, however, denied any wrong doing.

?Russian air force planes have not violated the Georgian border,? RIA Novosti news agency quoted a spokesman for the Russian Air Force, Alexander Drobishevsky, as saying on May 11.
