Georgia Joins Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism

Georgia has joined the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported on April 27.

The ministry said that the country fully backed the principles, which aim at consolidating the efforts of the international community in order to combat acquisition, usage or transportation of nuclear materials and radioactive substances by terrorists, and prevent hostile actions against nuclear facilities.

“Accession to the Global Initiative once more emphasizes Georgia’s willingness to cooperate to the fullest extent possible with partner nations in the process of combating nuclear terrorism,” a statement issued by the ministry reads.

The ministry has already sent relevant notes to the U.S. and Russian sides concerning Georgia’s accession to the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism.
