Estonian, Georgian Leaders Pledge Partnership
Estonia is ?Georgia?s partner and strong supporter,? President Saakashvili said after talks with his visiting Estonian counterpart, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, in Tbilisi on May 7.
The Estonian president, accompanied by a group of over 40 businessmen, started his three-day visit to Georgia on Monday ? the second in the last six months. The visit also includes a trip to Batumi in the Adjaran Autonomous Republic.
Speaking at a joint news conference with President Ilves, Saakashvili reiterated the Estonian president?s earlier remarks that there were ?emotional ties? between the two countries.
Saakashvili also said that Georgia was ?shocked? with Russia?s response to the row over a Soviet war memorial in Estonia.
“We don’t accept any attempts to destabilise the country that is a good example of democratic success and transformation,” he said.
President Ilves said that ?Estonia is proud? of having close relations with Georgia and added there were countries that are envious of Georgia?s success.
