JCC Holds Consultative Session in Tskhinvali

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze left for Tskhinvali on April 19 to participate in a consultative session of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) over South Ossetia.

During the session the Georgian side will again push a peace memorandum, envisaging non-use of force, demilitarization of the South Ossetian conflict zone and cooperation between Georgian and South Ossetian law enforcement agencies, which ? is an important precondition for making progress in the peace process,? according to the Georgian State Minister?s Office.

?The memorandum allows for the creation of the best opportunities and guarantees for development by defending the interests of the South Ossetian population, as well as granting wide autonomy to the region through political negotiations,? a statement issued by the Georgian State Minister?s Office on April 18 reads.

The Georgian side first unveiled the memorandum at the JCC Istanbul session on March 22-23. However, the document, which is the basis of Tbilisi?s peace plan and was supported by the OSCE summit in Ljubljana, was rejected by the South Ossetian side.

?Such disregard for the proposals approved by the international community will do nothing for the peaceful, full-scale settlement of the conflict.? the Georgian State Minister?s Office said. ?Proposals that contradict these principles will be counter-productive and directed against the peace process.?
