Russian Diplomat Comments on S. Ossetia Administration
Russian Ambassador to Tbilisi Vyacheslav Kovalenko said on April 11 that the Georgian president?s initiative on creating a provisional administrative entity in South Ossetia is ?very important?, but incorrect.
?This is a very serious step. But I do not think that it is taken in the right direction. An attempt to create new administrative structures and tools, I imagine, will not lead to peace in the region, but will simply trigger a new wave of confrontation,? Kovalenko told reporters on April 11.
His comments follow a meeting earlier that day between Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze and foreign diplomats accredited in Georgia. Burjanadze briefed them on the draft law on creating a provisional administrative entity in South Ossetia.
?The absolute majority, except one [referring to Russia], think that the Georgian authorities have chosen a correct road,? Burjanadze told reporters following the meeting.
Parliament has already approved the draft law with its first and second hearings. The final endorsement is scheduled for April 13.
