MP Becomes Deputy Chief Prosecutor
MP Nika Gvaramia has been appointed as deputy to Prosecutor-General Zurab Adeishvili, replacing Nona Tsotoria, the General-Prosecutor?s Office confirmed on March 26.
Nika Gvaramia is a lawmaker from the ruling National Movement party. He is the deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal issues.
?I will be in charge of legal issues, international relations and relations with the media,? Gvaramia said.
Opposition figures, however, have alleged that Gvaramia?s new appointment may be the first in a series of further reshuffles, which would see Gvaramia ultimately replacing Adeishvili.
MP Pikria Chikhradze of the opposition New Rights party said that Gvaramia’s appointment was made to defer further criticism of the General Prosecutor?s Office, which has been roundly attacked for its handling of the recent high-profile juvenile crime case.
An influential lawmaker from the ruling National Movement party, Giga Bokeria, criticized the General Prosecutor?s Office last week for its failure to provide sufficient information to the public on the case.
