Opposition, Ruling Party MPs Agree on Pro-NATO Declaration
Senior lawmakers from both the ruling majority and opposition have agreed on blueprint of pro-NATO declaration after four-hours of consultations on March 9.
The declaration is set to express a joint position of the leading political groups in the country over Georgia?s NATO aspiration, lawmakers said after the consultations.
?It was very constructive meeting? There is no disagreement between the major political forces in the country about NATO,? Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said.
?I have to say that the ruling majority was really constructive and they have taken into consideration all of our proposals,? MP Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of the opposition New Rights party, said.
?The major disagreement was about the text of the declaration as the ruling majority wanted to write down in it about the current authorities? achievements on the road to NATO, but the opposition was against. We have compromised,? MP Maia Nadiradze, leader of the parliamentary majority, said.
?We want the declaration to reflect our aspiration towards the European style liberal democracy,? Davit Usupashvili, leader of the opposition Republican Party, said.
