Tensions Defused in S.Ossetia after Release of ‘Hostages’

The most recent spike in tensions in the South Ossetian conflict zone has been defused after the Georgian side released two Ossetians in the evening on February 13, the Georgian sources reported.

Tensions sparked after Georgian trucks transporting flour to the Tbilisi-controlled village of Vanati in north-east of Tskhinvali were barred from passing through the South Ossetian-controlled areas. The South Ossetian side said the movement of trucks was not agreed with Tskhinvali.

In response, South Ossetian reports say, Georgian law enforcers detained at least 10 Ossetians from the nearby villages and held them hostage.

The Georgian side claims that only two armed persons were detained, who were released at about 9 pm Tbilisi time.
