Georgia to Sell Mining Permits through Auction
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources said on January 29 it will start receiving bids for mineral mining permits in Georgia starting from February. The permits will be sold through auction in May.
“Investors from Germany, South Africa, Israel, France and Great Britain have already expressed interests in Georgia’s major mineral fields,” Minister of Environment Davit Tkeshelashvili said on January 29.
The list of deposits include the arsenic field in Lukhumi, western mountainous region of Racha; polymetallic deposits of the Merisi ore field in Adjara Autonomous Republic; barite deposit in Chordi in western Georgia; talc mine in the village of Chorchana of the Khashuri district; mineral waters deposits in Utsera in Racha district; as well as limestone, diatomite and agate deposits.
