Sokhumi Accuses Tbilisi of Planning New Provocations

The Abkhaz authorities are confident that the Georgian side is preparing a new provocation against Abkhazia and intends to use the population of the Gali district for this purpose, Secretary of the Abkhaz Security Council Stanislav Lakoba told Apsnypress news agency on December 18.

He claimed that the Georgian authorities are interested in escalating tensions in the Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia. ?Under this pretext, they want to deploy international police in the region,? Lakoba said.

He also stressed that Tbilisi?s provocative actions may become the last straw that will lead to the recognition of Abkhazia by Russia.
