Russian Soldiers Briefly Detained in S.Ossetian Conflict Zone
Georgian police briefly detained two Russian peacekeepers near the village of Tirdznisi in the South Ossetian conflict zone, Shota Khizanishvili, Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman, said on December 4.
?They were transporting smuggled goods, mainly food stuff. But the Georgian side, in a manifestation of a goodwill, released the two servicemen and handed them over to the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone,? Khizanishvili told Civil Georgia on December 4.
Officials said that two servicemen were from the Russia’s North Ossetian peacekeeping battalion.
Neither Russian peacekeeping command nor the South Ossetian sides have commented yet on the Georgian Interior Ministry report.
