Deputy Energy Minister to Become Chief of Gas Corporation
Alexander Khetaguri, the Deputy Energy Minister, will become new General Director of the state-run Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC).
?Khetaguri is a person who Energy Minister Nika Gilauri has been working intensively with on the rehabilitation of the country?s energy system. He has been engaged in all major negotiations and knows the sector very well,? PM Zurab Nogaideli told reporters before the GOGC board meeting, which is expected to approve Khetaguri as new chief of the company.
PM Nogaideli is chairman of the board for GOGC, which was created recently through the merger of three separate state agencies – the Georgian International Gas Corporation (GIGC ? which controls the country?s trunk gas pipeline), the Georgian International Oil Corporation (GIOC) and the state oil company, SakNavtobi.
Khetaguri will replace ex-Economy Minister Irakli Chogovadze as GOGC general director. Chogovadze quit the position on November 18, just eight days after he was appointed as the replacement for Davit Ingorokva.
Ingorokva stepped down on November 10 after the chief of GOGC-affiliated Gas Transportation Company was arrested over suspected corruption transactions. Ingorokva?s apartment in Tbilisi has been searched by police after his resignation, but it is not clear whether he is officially wanted by law enforcers. Ingorokva?s whereabouts are not known.
