Sokhumi Rules Out Georgian Control on its Border with Russia
Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba said that Sokhumi will never agree to the deployment of Georgian customs officers at the Adleri-Leselidze checkpoint on the border between Abkhazia and Russia, Apsnipress news agency reported on November 21.
In a joint statement, the Georgian Foreign and Economy Ministries reiterated on November 21 that Tbilisi will give its go-ahead to Russia?s WTO accession only after the legalization of two border checkpoints – Adleri-Leselidze, at the border between Russia and breakaway Abkhazia, and the Roki Tunnel, at the border between Russia and breakaway South Ossetia.
?We will never let Georgian customs officers be deployed on the Psou River [running along the border with Russia] and I do not think that Russia will ever agree to it,? Shamba said.
