According to early results, 99% of voters cast their ballots for independence in the November 12 referendum and 96% voted for South Ossetia?s current leader Eduard Kokoity in the presidential elections, the breakaway South Ossetian Central Election Commission said on Monday.
Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis said on November 13 that the referendum and elections in breakaway South Ossetia are ?unnecessary, unhelpful and unfair.?
THe EU, U.S. and NATO have also condemned the elections. Moscow, however, said the referendum results should be ?taken into consideration.?
