Republicans Call to Nationalize Russia-Owned Energy Companies
Leader of the opposition Republican Party Davit Usupashvili called on the authorities on November 3 to nationalize energy facilities owned by Russian companies.
?The continuation of Russia?s control over these [energy] facilities means a permanent threat to energy supplies. The government made a huge mistake in handing over these facilities to Russian companies. We think that a plan to nationalize these companies should be developed immediately,? Usupashvili said at a news conference.
The Russian United Energy Systems (UES) owns Telasi ? the electricity distribution company in the capital Tbilisi, as well as two hydroelectric power plants and the 9th power generator in Gardabani.
