6 Candidates to Run for Alternative Polls in South Ossetia

Six candidates have applied to the alternative Central Election Commission stationed in the Georgian village of Eredvi in the South Ossetian conflict zone for registration as presidential candidates in the November 12 elections in breakaway South Ossetia.

These presidential elections are initiated by the newly set up organization Salvation Union of Ossetians, which is run by the opponents of the secessionist authorities of South Ossetia.

Although officials in Tbilisi say that the so-called alternative elections are illegitimate, Tskhinvali claims that they are being staged with Tbilisi?s backing in an attempt to establish a ?puppet government.?

Chairman of the alternative Central Election Commission Uruzmag Karkusov said on October 30 that among the registered candidates there are: Maia Chigoeva-Tsaboshvili, Giogi Chigoev, Teimuraz Jeragoev, Anatoly Dudaev, Tamar Charaeva and Dimitri Sanakoev. The latter is a former prime minister of breakaway South Ossetia.
