Moscow Wants Tbilisi to Show Willingness to Improve Ties

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said on October 24 that the restoration of political contact between Russia and Georgia will depend on Tbilisi?s real moves towards the normalization of relations with Moscow, Interfax news agency reported.

?The Georgian side should take tangible steps in order to prove its willingness to normalize relations with Russia. Only afterwards will it be possible to talk about any bilateral meetings at a top level,? Karasin said.

Karasin did not specify details of the steps Moscow expects from Tbilisi.

President Saakashvili has repeated his readiness to meet Russia’s President Vladimir Putin at any time.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on October 23 that Russia ?is not yet planning? to restore air links with Georgia.

Russia cut air, land, sea and postal links with Georgia on October 3 following a spy row between the two countries.
