Tbilisi Slams Russia for Closing Border Checkpoint
The Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed protest regarding the closure of the Zemo Larsi checkpoint on the Russo-Georgian border by Russia on July 8, citing the necessity of carrying out repair works.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry described the decision as ?unfriendly and provocative.?
The Georgian side claims that in accordance with the Russian-Georgian Agreement on Customs Control and Border Checkpoints, the sides shall notify each other of restriction of movement caused by repair works at the border checkpoints no later than three months before the commencement of such works.
?The Georgian side has received no such notification. The Russian side notified us about the closure of the checkpoint only 2 hours before this measure was carried out,? a statement issued by the Georgian Foreign Ministry on July 8 reads.
