MP Quits Zourabichvili’s Party
MP Gia Tortladze announced on June 9 that he has quitted the newly established opposition party Georgia’s Way, which is led by ex-Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili.
Salome Zourabichvili said in an article published by the daily 24 Saati (24 Hours) on June 8 that she says ‘no’ to what is known to be a mechanical unification of the opposition parties on the eve of local self-governance elections, as she is not going to make any deals with the current opposition parties to just gain seats or positions in the local self-governance bodies.
“Any confrontation among the opposition parties is absolutely unacceptable for me. Hence, I have to quit the party,” MP Tortladze said at a news conference.
In October 2005 MP Gia Tortladze, who was member of the ruling National Movement party’s parliamentary faction by then, quitted the ruling party citing his decision by the faction’s demand to dismiss Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili.
