PM: Russian Peacekeepers Rotation ‘Impudent’

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on May 31 that Russia’s decision to send its rotation of peacekeeping troops in the South Ossetian conflict zone via the Roki Tunnel was “an impudent act.”

The Georgian authorities have unleashed criticism towards Russia for using what it calls an “illegal border checkpoint” at the Roki pass, which links breakaway South Ossetian with Russia’s North Ossetian Republic, to enter the Georgian territory.

“Russia conducted a rotation of its so called peacekeeping troops impudently, like all the other things Russia is doing recently with violations of bilateral agreements. Through this act Russia has demonstrated that it is not interested in bilateral agreements,” PM Nogaideli said while speaking at a session of the government.

Russia is also rotating its peacekeepers deployed in the Abkhaz conflict zone under the aegis of Commonwealth of Independent States.
