Saakashvili Warns of Threat to Georgian, Ukrainian Democracies
President Saakashvili said on May 4 that “forces in Russia” pose a threat to the wave of democracy which was launched from Georgia.
Saakashvili was speaking at the summit of Baltic and Black Sea regions leaders in Vilnius, Lithuania. A portion of his speech was broadcasted and translated into Georgian on local television stations.
Saakashvili said that certain forces in Russia aim at undermining democracies in Georgia and Ukraine and added that these are “very serious” and “well financed” forces.
He also said that this should represent a challenge for Europe as well, because a threat to democracies in Georgian and Ukrainian will also undermine Europe’s interests.
