Reports: Russia Eases Abkhaz Border Crossing for Foreigners

Authorities in breakaway Abkhazia have welcomed Russia?s decision to ease control’s on its boarder with the region, thus allowing foreign citizens to enter the unrecognized republic for the first time, the Abkhaz news agency Apsnypress reported on April 11.

?Abkhazia is grateful to those people, who helped in lifting restrictions on the free movement of people,? Apsnypress quoted Kristian Bzhania, the Abkhaz leader?s spokesman.

No immediate comment was available from the Georgian officials on this report, which, if confirmed, will be unwelcome in Tbilisi.
