Georgian, Russian MPs Meet in Moscow

Visiting Georgian parliamentarians from the ruling National Movement party met with their counterparts from the Russian State Duma’s Committees for CIS Affairs, Foreign Relations and Defense and Security in Moscow on March 21.

“During each meeting it was stressed that the issue of [Georgia’s] territorial integrity is not questioned by Russia. This country is even ready to cooperate over settlement of this issue,” Georgian Vice Speaker Mikheil Machavariani, who leads the Georgian delegation, told reporters in Moscow.

Georgian MPs described the meetings at the Russian State Duma as “warm.”

“We explained that Georgia does not regard Russia as an enemy. Simply, we want to see a clear impulse for settlement of problems and this impulse should come from the peace process, which is now suspended,” Machavariani added.

The Georgian MPs have already discussed bilateral relations with the officials from the Russian President’s Administration and the Foreign Ministry.
