U.S. Department of State Issues Human Rights Report

The U.S. Department of State Country Report on Human Right 2005 issued on March 8 says that last year the Georgian “government’s human rights record improved in some areas, although serious problems remained.”

The report listed among these problems: torture and abuse of detainees; life-threatening prison conditions; impunity in law enforcement; lack of judicial independence; arbitrary arrest and detention;  interference with citizens’ right to privacy; government pressure on the media; harassment against some religious minorities; discrimination against women; trafficking in persons.
