Tbilisi, Sokhumi Agree to Coordinate Anti-Crime Measures
The Georgian and Abkhaz sides agreed, during UN-mediated talks in Gali on January 24, ?to activate bilateral and multilateral cooperation aimed at fighting and preventing criminality in the conflict zone – first and foremost in the Gali district,? according to the final protocol of the meeting signed by the sides.
The talks, which featured the participation of Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khindrava, Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba, as well as representatives of the UN Observer Mission and Russian peacekeepers, focused on the security situation in the predominately Georgian-populated Gali district.
The sides agreed to appoint representatives who will be in charge of coordinating cooperation activities between the Abkhaz and Georgian law enforcement agencies in an attempt to tackle the rising crime situation in Gali.
