Saakashvili Speaks of Sweden’s Role in CDC

Georgia hopes Sweden will play an important role in the Community of Democratic Choice (CDC) initiated by Georgia and Ukraine, President Saakashvili said on January at a joint news conference with visiting Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson.

“Sweden’s role in the union, which was created by us – Georgia and Ukraine under the Borjomi Declaration, is very important… We think that Sweden’s role in the next meeting of Community of Democratic Choice, which will be held in Bucharest, will be very important,” Saakashvili said.

“We are talking about the unity of the Black Sea-Baltic region, about united, stable, democratic development and Sweden is, of course, a leader in the Baltic region. Sweden’s participation will be of special importance which will give additional impulse to the forum,” he added.

Prime Minister Persson stated that Sweden is closely watching developments in Georgia and is willing to create closer ties with Tbilisi.
