Lavrov Comments on Russian Military Bases

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news briefing on January 17 that during 2005 the greatest achievement in the relations with Georgia was the agreement reached between the two countries on the withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia.

?The Russian side has fulfilled all agreements concerning last year; we will honestly fulfill all those provisions of the agreement which relate to the years 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively,? Lavrov said.

According to a joint declaration signed by the Russian and Georgian Foreign Ministers on May 30,  Russia should remove its military bases from Georgia in the course of 2008.

The Russian Minister also stressed that last year ?was not bad? in terms of economic cooperation with Georgia. ?Both sides are interested in boosting trade and economic relations,? he added.
