Saakashvili Says there is No Crisis in Ukraine

President Saakashvili said on January 11 that he does not think there is a governmental crisis in Ukraine, following the Ukrainian Parliament?s decision to sack the government over a gas price deal with Russia.

?We all are waiting with a interest for the March [parliamentary] elections [in Ukraine]. I can say that [Ukrainian] President Yushchenko and his team are in good shape, are motivated, they know what they are doing and we have strong and reliable partners. I do not feel there is any mood of crisis,? Saakashvili told reporters.

Saakashvili met with his Ukrainian counterpart Victor Yushchenko in Astana on January 10 on the sideline of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev inauguration. Saakashvili said that he had ?a long conversation? with Yushchenko and discussed recent developments in Ukraine, as well as bilateral cooperation.

Victor Yushchenko told Georgian reporters in Astana that the Parliament?s decision to sack the government ?was not reasonable? and ?was anti-constitutional.? He said that the gas price agreed upon with Russia ? an average of USD 95 per 1000 cubic meters ? was ?a compromise.?
