Village Head Kidnapped in Gali

Head of the village of Nabakevi, in the Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia, Zaira Ekhvaia was kidnapped after a group of unknown armed men raided her house in the village late on January 9, Georgian media sources reported.

According to Georgian officials kidnappers have already demanded a USD 100,000 ransom for Ekhvaia?s release.

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on January 10 that the incident occurred near the Russian peacekeepers? checkpoint in the village of Nabakevi.
