Georgia Formally Increases Number of Troops

Maximum number of the Georgian Ministry of Defense (MoD) and Border Guard Department (BGD) forces should not exceed 31,868, according to the law signed by President Saakashvili on January 5.

In a previous law maximum number of servicemen of both MoD and BGD was set at 29,703.

According to the new law, the number of the MoD forces shall not exceed 26 thousand servicemen, while the number of BGD troops ? 5,868. Currently, the number of MoD troops is 21,468, according to official information.
