Abkhaz Foreign Minister Comments on Return of Refugees

Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba said on December 13 that the return of Georgian refugees to other regions of Abkhazia besides the Gali district will trigger ?new conflicts, new bloodshed and new war,? Apsnypress news agency reported. 

?Therefore we speak exclusively about the Gali district … It is necessary to develop correct policies on how to make the residents of the Gali district reliable citizens of Abkhazia,? the de facto Foreign Minister said.

He noted that the law of Abkhazia on citizenship ?does not envisage dual citizenship with Georgia. So, one will have to make a choice.?

?We want the world community to recognize the process of returning refugees as valid. This means that we will be able to speak about other issues which are often dragged out because the issue of returning refugees is not solved yet,? Shamba added.
