Georgian, Abkhaz Sides Agree on Security Guarantees
Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava told reporters on December 7 that the Georgian and Abkhaz sides have “actually agreed” on a package of documents concerning security guarantees and non-resumption of hostilities in the Abkhaz conflict zone.
This statement was made upon Khaindrava?s arrival from breakaway Abkhazia, where he participated in the first session of the steering committee for implementation of the European Commission-funded infrastructure rehabilitation projects in the Abkhaz conflict zone on December 6-7.
The Georgian State Minister said that he held ?very interesting? talks with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh and Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba.
While commenting on these talks Khaindrava stressed the concern of the Abkhaz side over strengthening Georgia?s military potential.
?I explained them [Bagapsh, Shamba] that it is quite natural to strengthen the military potential of the country and these armed forces will never be directed towards settlement of problems inside the country,? Khaindrava said.
