MP Quits Ruling Party

MP Gia Tortladze announced that he has quit the ruling National Movement party?s parliamentary faction after disagreements with the leaders of the faction.

He said on October 19 that he was against the National Movement faction?s demand to dismiss Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili.

?Besides this reason, I was also rebuked [by the faction?s leadership] for supporting those members of the Academy of Sciences who are against of the planned reform of the Academy. My discontent was also caused by a negligent attitude of a small group of influential members of the faction ? five decision-maker parliamentarians – towards other members of the faction. I do not want to be a member of the crowd,? MP Tortladze told Civil Georgia on October 19.

He also said that he wants to join a new parliamentary faction which is planned to be formed by the opposition Republican and Conservative parties, as well as several non-partisan parliamentarians.
