Georgia Denies Reports over Tskhinvali Shelling

Vladimer Jugeli, Chief of the Police Department in the Shida Kartli region, which borders breakaway South Ossetia, denied reports that the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali came under mortar fire on Sunday.

According to the South Ossetian side, two mortar shells, fired from the nearby Georgian village of Kheiti, exploded in Tskhinvali, causing no injuries.

“An unknown explosive went off in one of the house located in Tskhinvali”s “Textile District” and it is absurd to say that it was a result of mortar shelling, fired from a Georgian village,” Vladimir Jugeli told Civil Georgia on October 17.
