Abkhaz Railway Assessment Postponed
Assessment of the current condition of the railway in breakaway Abkhazia by a group of Russian, Abkhaz and Georgian experts, which was planned to be continued on October 10, was postponed for a week. No reasons for this delay have been reported.
According to the Georgian State Minister?s Office, the Georgian, Russian and Abkhaz experts will launch assessment works of the 200 kilometer-long railway on October 17. The sides will prepare a document which will reflect the funds necessary for rehabilitating the railway, which will connect Russia and Georgia.
A group of Russian and Abkhaz experts began assessing the current condition of the railway in breakaway Abkhazia on August 10. Georgian experts were also scheduled to join their counterparts from Russia and Abkhazia, but, as officials in Tbilisi explained, the Abkhaz side refused to grant entry to several Georgian experts who were internally displaced persons from Abkhazia.
