Highest Voter Turnout Reported in Tkibuli
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC) the highest voter turnout at the MP by-elections was reported in the Tkibuli constituency, in the western Georgian region of Imereti.
56% of Tkibuli?s total 18,000 voters had cast a ballot by 5 pm local time; in Shuakhevi constituency, in the Adjara Autonomous Republic ? 52%; Kobuleti constituency in Ajdara ? 38%; Tbilisi?s Isani constituency ? 22%.
The lowest voter turnout by noon was reported in the Batumi constituency in Ajdara with just a 21% turnout.
Last year?s amendments to the Election Code dropped a provision requiring at least 1/3 voter turnout to make the MP by-elections valid. As a result, a candidate with 1/3 of total votes cast during the polls will be the winner, regardless of voter turnout.
