Burjanadze Speaks of ‘Black PR Campaign’ Against Her
Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze convened a news conference on September 30 to deny recent newspaper reports about her wealth describing them as “a part of black PR campaign” against her.
“It seems that it serves someone’s interest to carry out a black PR campaign against the Parliamentary Chairperson. I will not specify now, who stands behind this campaign. But I want to call on some journalist not to become a tool in the hands of [those behind this campaign],” Nino Burjanadze told reporters.
Georgian daily Alia published on September 10, 11 and 29 series of articles which say that two luxurious houses, which are currently under construction in the capital Tbilisi, belong to Nino Burjanadze. The newspaper has also published photos of these houses.
“I want to request Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava to find out identity of a person who really owns these buildings… I was not going elucidate about these [newspaper] reports, because I have nothing to explain away, but these groundless accusations have already turned into a tendency,” Nino Burjanadze said.
She also asked journalists to set up a group of reporters and to investigate whether the information published in the newspaper is true or not.
