Abkhazians, Georgians Mark September 27

Georgian officials will lay wreaths at the memorial of Georgia’s fallen soldiers in Tbilisi on september 27 to commemorate those who died in the Abkhaz conflict, marking the Day of Memory and Hope ? commemorating the fall of the Abkhaz capital Sokhumi on September 27, 1993, when the Georgian troops were forced out of the city. Three days later, on September 30, 1993, Georgian forces left the territory of Abkhazia entirely.


Meanwhile, in Abkhazia this day is celebrated as the Liberation of Sokhumi. Abkhaz officials will also lay a wreath in the Park of Honor to commemorate Abkhaz soldiers who died in the conflict. Later in the evening, an outdoor concert is scheduled in Sokhumi, according to the Apsnypress news agency.
