Tskhinvali Urges U.S. to Warn Tbilisi Against Use of Force

In a letter sent to the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi the Foreign Ministry of breakaway South Ossetia urged the United States ?to warn the Georgian authorities against provocations and any form of military pressure? on South Ossetia, the Press and Information Committee of unrecognized republic reported on September 26.

?Actions undertaken by the Georgian side against South Ossetia during the celebrations of 15th anniversary of establishment of the Republic represent a provocation and breach of all agreements, including the one on non-use of armaments donated by the United States in internal conflicts,? the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated.

The South Ossetian side once again condemned the mortar attack on the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali on September 20 and blamed the Georgian side for this incident, which injured ten civilians.

The Foreign Ministry of the unrecognized republic also condemned the ?shooting from the Georgian side? which, according to Tskhinvali, took place early on September 19 in the southern outskirts of Tskhinvali. ?Two civilians were injured? as a result of these shots fired from the U.S.-made M16 assault rifles, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated. There have been no reports about this shooting before.
