Georgian, Abkhaz Sides Hail Talks as Constructive
Both Georgian State Minister Giorgi Khaindrava and Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba hailed the UN-mediated negotiations in Tbilisi on August 4 as ?very constructive.?
Sergey Shamba said afterward that the negotiations were held in a ?working atmosphere? and were ?very useful.?
The two sides discussed security guarantees and the non-resumption of hostilities, as well as measures related to the return of Georgian internally displaced persons to the Gali district of Abkhazia.
The next meeting in the frames of the so-called Geneva process, led by the UN with the participation of UN Secretary General?s Group of Friends on Georgia – France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, will be held in the Abkhaz capital of Sokhumi in September.
