Saakashvili: Russia Plans to Increase Gas Prices
President Saakashvili said on July 17 while meeting with the regional governors in Batumi, that Georgia should really prepare for an increase in gas prices, as Russia fully intends to implement thier plan to increase gas prices in many CIS countries.
?If we want to have gas, we should pay for it,? Saakashvili added.
Russia?s lower house of Parliament, the State Duma, adopted a statement on July 8 urging the Russian government to consider a possible increase in gas prices for Georgia, Moldova, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Ukraine.
In late June Chairman of the Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexei Miller said that the company will increase the price of gas for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) starting from 2006.
