Reports: Russian Tycoon Buys Stalin’s Dacha in Abkhazia

Reports say that Russian metal tycoon Oleg Deripaska has bought Josef Stalin’s holiday home in Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia for USD 10 million.

Abkhaz Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab confirmed in an interview with the Russian NTV television on June 30 that “a process of formalization of the deal is currently underway,” but he declined to reveal the owner’s name saying that it is “a commercial secret.”

Officials in Tbilisi have warned for several times already that the privatization process is illegal in Abkhazia and called on the foreign businessmen, mainly Russians, to refrain from investing in this unrecognized republic.
