Tbilisi, Moscow Agree on Transfer of Tank Repair Factory

Chief of Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Levan Nikoleishvili said on Tuesday that the Georgian and Russian sides have agreed to sign a protocol on June 15, which will officially mark the end of the handover process of the Tbilisi-based Russian Armor/Tank Repair Factory to the Georgian side.

June 15 is the deadline for this hand-over, set by a joint declaration signed by the Russian and Georgian Foreign Ministers in Moscow on May 30. The joint declaration outlines the withdrawal process of the Russian military bases from Georgia.

The two sides have been at odds over four vehicles currently stationed on the factory?s territory. However, as the Georgian Chief of Staff said, the sides have agreed that the disputed vehicles will be removed from Georgia.

Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Yuri Baluevsky stated earlier on June 14 that the Georgian side ?wanted to gain ‘mobile’ property together with the ‘immobile’ one.?

According to the joint declaration between the Russian and Georgian Foreign Ministers, the mobile property at the Russian military bases, as well as other military facilities, should be removed from the territory of Georgia and the immobile property transferred to the Georgian side.
