Georgian Border Guards Start OSCE-led Training
The first group of 80 Georgian border guards started training in frames of the OSCE Training Assistance Programme (TAP) on June 13, the OSCE Mission to Georgia reported.
A total of 800 border guards are expected to undergo this training course within the year, which is designed to enhance the border guards? skills in rescue operations in mountainous areas; planning and management of border units; patrolling; reporting and observation; maintenance rules for special equipment; map reading; communications and first aid.
The start of the training course was marked by the signing of the protocol on co-operation between Badri Bitsadze, Chairman of the Georgian Border Guard Department, and Rory McCorley, the TAP Program Manager, which took place at Lilo training center outside Tbilisi.
The Lilo centre is one of four locations ? including Omalo, Kazbegi and Lagodekhi ? which deliver these trainings. Courses, comprising both theoretical and practical components, began simultaneously at all the centers.
This decision to start these training courses was approved by the OSCE Permanent Council on April 14.
